Comment convertir un Live Photo en GIF en ligne

A Live Photo animates in the iPhone Photos app and on the lock screen. The moment you drop it into WhatsApp, WeChat, Instagram, Slack, or a website, most of that motion disappears. Those apps want a GIF, a video, or a still — not Apple’s still-plus-movie pair. This page is the chat path: export the motion as a GIF or a lighter WebP in the browser.

Open Live Photo to GIF. The page stays public. Processing is local, so the Live Photo is not uploaded. The tool is permanent free — open it and export. The rest of the converters sit on the Live Photo hub.

Why chat strips the motion

A Live Photo is two parts: a still (HEIC or JPG) and a short MOV. Photos plays them together and shows a LIVE badge. Share sheets often offer “Photo” as the default. That option sends the still and leaves the movie behind. The recipient sees a normal picture.

GIF and WebP are single files that loop in browsers and many messengers. They are the practical export when the audience is not another iPhone. Use Live Photo to video when you need a real movie instead of a palette-limited loop. Use the Live Photo itself when the destination is a lock screen — see the Live Photo complete guide for that side of the workflow.

.livp versus HEIC+MOV

iPhone can hand you the Live Photo in more than one shape:

  • .livp — a package (really a zip) that holds the still and the movie together. AirDrop and some exports use this.
  • HEIC + MOV — the same pair as two files sitting next to each other. The HEIC is the still. The MOV is the motion. A JPG can stand in for the HEIC if the still was already converted.
  • Photo only — a HEIC or JPG with no movie. There is nothing to animate. Export from the iPhone again and keep the LIVE badge.

Live Photo to GIF accepts the package and the pair. If you only have the still, the tool cannot invent the motion. Go back to Photos, confirm LIVE, and share the full Live Photo or the .livp.

On a Mac, AirDrop the Live Photo to yourself and check that both parts arrived. On Windows, a lone HEIC is a still. You need the MOV beside it, or a .livp that still contains both.

Steps

  1. On the iPhone, open the Live Photo and confirm the LIVE badge. Press and hold so you know motion is still there.
  2. Share the full Live Photo. AirDrop the .livp to a computer, or save the HEIC/JPG and the MOV together. Avoid “Duplicate as Still” and any share option that says photo only.
  3. Open Live Photo to GIF in Chrome, Safari, or another current browser.
  4. Upload the .livp, or the still plus the MOV.
  5. Choose GIF for the widest chat support, or WebP when the destination is a browser or a tool that accepts it and you want a smaller file.
  6. Download the result. Play it once before you send it. If the loop is a single frozen frame, the movie never arrived.

File size and WebP

GIF is easy to share and hard to keep small. It stores a limited color palette, so photos band, gradients posterize, and file size climbs as soon as you add frames or pixels.

Practical controls:

  • Prefer the original Live Photo length. These clips are already short. Do not upscale them before export.
  • Use WebP when the viewer supports it. The same loop is usually much smaller and keeps more color.
  • Use GIF for WhatsApp-style chat, older email clients, and places that still reject WebP.
  • If the GIF is still too heavy, shorten what you send or switch to video. A MOV or MP4 from Live Photo to video holds photographic color without the GIF palette.

Social crops matter too. A tall lock-screen Live Photo becomes a skinny GIF in a square chat bubble. Crop the still and movie to square or 4:5 before you export if the destination is a feed tile.

When to use video instead

Pick GIF or WebP for autoplay loops in chat and on the web. Pick video when:

  • The motion is the point and color must stay photographic.
  • The platform accepts MP4 and rejects large GIFs.
  • You will edit the clip later in a timeline.
  • File size is already too big as a GIF and WebP is not allowed.

Live Photo to video keeps the motion as a movie. It will not loop by itself inside every app. That is the trade.

Reverse: GIF back to Live Photo

Chat wants a GIF. The lock screen wants a Live Photo. After you export, you can go back. GIF to Live Photo builds a JPG+MOV ZIP from an animated GIF so you can AirDrop it to Photos and set a wallpaper. Steps for that direction live in How to convert GIF to Live Photo. Do not expect the GIF you just made to be a lock-screen file by itself.

Troubleshooting

  • The download is one frozen frame. You uploaded a still. Re-export the .livp or the HEIC+MOV pair from the iPhone.
  • The file will not open. Rename a .livp only if you know it is a zip of the pair. Otherwise upload the original package, not a photo you saved from Messages.
  • Colors look banded. That is GIF. Switch the export to WebP, or use video for the full-color copy.
  • The GIF is too large for chat. Fewer pixels, or WebP, or Live Photo to video. Do not upscale first.
  • You needed a lock screen, not a GIF. Stop here and use GIF to Live Photo or Video to Live Photo.
  • AirDrop to a computer shows only a JPG. The share dropped the movie. On the iPhone, confirm LIVE and send all photo data.

FAQ

### Which file should I upload?
A .livp package, or the still (HEIC or JPG) together with its MOV. A still alone has no motion to export.
GIF or WebP?
GIF for chat apps that only autoplay GIF. WebP when you control the page or the app accepts it and you care about file size and color.
Does this upload my Live Photo?
No. Live Photo to GIF runs in the browser. Download the GIF or WebP when it is ready.
Why did my friend only receive a still photo?
The share sheet sent the photo, not the Live Photo or the GIF. Export a GIF or WebP first, then send that file.
Can I put this GIF on the iPhone lock screen?
Not as a GIF. Convert it back with GIF to Live Photo, import the JPG+MOV pair, and set the wallpaper. The complete guide maps the other directions.
Where are the other converters?
The Live Photo hub links GIF, video, and still tools. This export is permanent free and stays in the browser.
